Following the amazing success of the St Chad’s family activity afternoon in the summer, St Chad’s has decided to get messy more often – life gets messy so church should too!

In fact, they’re doing it every month and calling it Messy Church! Every messy session will include singing, jumping around, bible stories, crafts, games, time to chat and if that’s not enough, it’ll always end with tea. Starting on Friday 7th October, Messy Church will take place at St Chad’s on the first Friday of the month from 3.30pm – 5.30pm.

Back in July, over 30 children and their grown-ups came and spent a wonderful afternoon exploring a bible story using biscuits, mocktails, glue, glitter, fondant icing, pretend pigswill, fancy dress costumes and sticky felt! They sang, jumped about and ended the afternoon with tea. It went so well that St Chad’s have decided to join the national network of Messy Churches and run sessions like this on the first Friday of every month.

Talking about Messy Church, Rev’d Claire Turner, Vicar at St Chad’s said,

“All over the country churches have started filling their buildings with glue, glitter, food and fun as they explore life and faith with children and their families. We’re really excited to be joining the Messy Church family and hope that the St Chad’s Messy Church will provide lots of new ways for people to get to know the church community.”

The St Chad’s Messy Church is free and all are welcome. Sessions will begin after school with doors open from 3.15pm on the first Friday of every month. Refreshments will be on offer as people arrived and a light tea will be served at the end. Those attending are asked to remember that Messy Church is not just for children – it’s for everyone so please make sure children are accompanied by an adult at all times.
