Dedicated volunteer’s birthday celebrated at Rubery nursery

RUBERY youngsters have been celebrating the work of a dedicated volunteer.

Brian Kite helped set up Jellybabies Nursery in 1993 and still volunteers there five days a week.

Brian arrives at 8.15am each morning and helps set up ready for each session.

He ensures children are able to self register, letters are ready to be given to parents and activities are ready for the children.

Recently the volunteer reached his 78th birthday, and youngsters helped him celebrate the birthday and his 21 years at the Longbridge Methodist Church-based nursery.

In a recent Ofsted inspection, in September, Brian was commended by Ofsted for the fantastic job he does all on a voluntary basis.

Jacqueline Walker, nursery manager, said: “He is there every morning for when parents, carers and children arrive, always with a friendly cheerful manner to welcome them.

“He is very highly respected and the children are always so excited when he comes into the hall to see them.”
